Hello everyone, i have been spending a lot of time getting my new computer ready for streams and i am constantly hitting new issues with settings.
Make sure DS4Windows is up to date.
Now the program that i ended up using is DS4Windows, i wasn't using this one on my old rig with windows 10. I was using ScpServer which also failed to work at first. With this fix i am sure both would work since the issue is not with the programs or the hardware but with the game itself from what i have read.
This will only work after you have installed all the right drivers for your controller. You Will have to play with your controller plugged in, unless i look further into it, i will update if i find a way to make it work.
So after you have your controller installed and ready to go, try to boot up Dark Souls 2, if you get the same issue i show in the video then unplug the controller and re-plug it in. That should fix it, now you will need to do this every time but it beats changing setting via windows which disabling DHCP does work but with my ISP i can't conect to the internet without it. Or buying an Xbox controller.

Not yet found a definitive answer to this anywhere yet (most places I look is just people having difficulty with InputMapper and Steam...)
Does Dark Souls 3 on the PC have native support for a PS4 controller connected by USB? Or does this game NEED to have a 3rd party piece of software installed? (DS4Controller/InputMapper etc.)

PS4 controller acts like a DirectInput controller by default, which is being phased out due to Xinput being superior.While Dark Souls 3 might work with DInput (most games that support controllers also 'support' DirectInput) controller, the buttons will be counter-intuitively mapped and it won't be an enjoyable experience.
There is no reason why you shouldn't use DS4Windows with a PS4 controller on PC though, as it emulates an xinput controller while also opening a lot of customization options, like key rebinding including the touchpad, as well as lightbar color change at different battery levels, mouse simulation, etc.
Make sure that you are plugging into a usb and not a usb3
